How we select parenting videos:
We acquire a lending library of the best multimedia
resources available. Our team of advisors, agency
professionals, dozens of volunteers, and parents
representing different backgrounds collaborate to
assemble our library using this process:
STEP 1 - DEFINE THE TOPICS
We make a list of topics based on national research and input from
local professionals and agencies. The list is reviewed by groups of
parents.
STEP 2 - ESTABLISH OBJECTIVES
We define general criteria for all videos. Then, a group of at least
three professionals with expertise on each topic provides additional
learning objectives for each specific topic.
STEP 3 - SEARCH FOR VIDEOS
We research recommendations for video titles from local
professionals, libraries, vendor catalogs, research by others, and
the web. We try to locate several excellent candidates for each
topic. With over 65,000 parenting videos ‘out there’, finding the
best for each of our topics is both an important and comprehensive
task.
STEP 4 - FILTER THE VIDEOS
Volunteers preview candidate videos. This initial screening is to
eliminate those that fail to meet objectives or are of lesser
quality.
STEP 5 - RECOMMEND VIDEOS
Local childcare professionals view the remaining videos and
recommend the best one for our library. Sometimes they recommend
more than one, as videos may be suited for certain groups (i.e. teen
parents). These experts also generate the reference materials we
offer after viewing the video.
STEP 6 - ACQUISITION
Establish a purchase and streaming agreement with the supplier.
Whenever available, we obtain multiple VHS and DVD copies in both
English and Spanish.
STEP 7 - USING THE VIDEOS
Agencies may contact us to borrow sets of videos for direct use with
their clients. Click For agencies
